I wanted to see if I could create a realistic clay shader in Maya. I think it turned out quite good. I also made a short animation that you can watch below.
The shader is built up by a displacement map och a normal map. The shader also has some sss and a reflection glossiness-texture connected to it so I can control where and how much the shader reflects the lights in the scene.
I also have a texture deformer on each object to add another level of irregularity.
The scene is quite simple, it´s just the wall, the podium and the clay model. Besides that, there´s a tree that creates the dynamic, soft shadows that you can see on the wall. Those shadows are made from a direction light, representing the sun, and besides that I also have some area lights around the scene to add more lightning.
